Charming recycling!

Quaint and charming without costing the earth!Small bouquets of flowers look beautiful in old recycled cans.

Grass straw, twine, raffia or lace ribbon can be tied around each can to complete the look! For a country or garden wedding this idea is very charming, not to mention inexpensive!

Am doing diy decorations for my best friend's wedding and for the reception, have been saving tin coffee cans. i found some packages of damask napkins, 20 for 97 cents. i have been using spray adhesive and gluing the napkins onto the outside of the cans. I then am using a piece of wide red ribbon to wrap around the middle, then gluing small monogrammed cards, which i printed myself, and attaching it to the front of the can on the ribbon with a glue gun. I am then filling the cans with red mums as her wedding is in October, so keeping the color scheme and fall aspect of the wedding. They look lovely! The ideas are endless.

If you want to put something more special than plain tin cans, you can decorate them with tissue paper and elmer's glue. It's really simple: pick large pieces of tissue paper in four complimenting colors, such as white, green, teal and a darker blue, and tear the paper up in to many 2"x2"square or triangular pieces. Take a bottle of Elmer's toxic-free craft glue (you may need more than one bottle) and pour it out into a small bowl. (You may even want one bottle of glue per color so that the color does not bleed into the glue.) Take one piece and dip it in the glue, covering both sides of the piece of tissue paper. Paste it flat on the surface of the can, and keep adding the pieces until you have one layer of tissue paper. Let the first layer dry completely before you add another layer. You probably don't need more than three layers. They look artsy and interesting, and you can incorporate your color theme cheaply!

I've also seen some beautiful variations of this with old glass bottles used instead. You can often find them cheaply in local flea markets.
